Diesel maintenance class—November 18, 2003

Group

All of us who were taking this full-day advanced class had taken the Introductory class last year. The only difference is that our class is a lot smaller to give each of us a chance to get our hands dirty.

We spent part of the day in the classroom learning how to use a multimeter in trouble-shooting electrical problems. We also reviewed some of the material covered in last year's class. Cummins' instructor Jim Brown explained how the injectors work and passed one around so we'd have an idea what we would be working on. Soon we went into the engine room, where we watched carefully as Jim showed us how to remove/install injectors and how to check the timing.

Shortly thereafter, we each had a turn working on the injectors and the timing. What started out as a mysterious procedure soon became something any of us could do.

This is a great class!
